The time it took to escape from the box during the trials was recorded in the graph below.","content_type":"","title":null,"shrink":null},{"type":"particle","particle_id":38687,"object_id":"1338167817","particle_type":"bodytext","picture":null,"text":"Law of Effect: Thorndike's theory that behavior consistently rewarded will be \"stamped in\" as learned behavior, and behavior that brings about discomfort will be \"stamped out\" (also known as the principle of reinforcement).","content_type":"","title":null,"shrink":null},{"type":"chart","chart_id":69224,"object_id":"1338165010","chart_type_nr":6,"data":[[["","2","4","6","8","10","12","14","16","18","20","22","24","26","28","30","32","34","36","38","40"],["Trials","600","500","350","300","350","180","350","360","600","500","350","150","250","150","140","170","40","150","160"]]],"custom":{"legacyTransposeDone":true,"switchRowsColumns":true},"colors":[],"dimensions":[],"modifier":0,"sheetnames":null,"sheets_settings":[]},{"type":"particle","particle_id":38735,"object_id":"1338169328","particle_type":"bodytext","picture":null,"text":"Certain techniques used by the cats that helped in the attempt to escape were then used more frequently in successive trials as the cat itself noticed the positive consequence of those actions. When negative reinforcers are used, there is the subtraction of something unpleasant to increase a desired behavior. This, however, is not as easy as simply using positive reinforcers and adding something pleasant to increase behavior. It is easier to give a reward for a wanted behavior rather than removing something that the dog dislikes. In addition, negative punishment appears to be more effective instead of positive punishment to train dogs. Positive punishment involves giving something undesirable to decrease their behavior. The downside to this technique is that something unpleasant is actually being inflicted upon the dog whereas negative punishment only removes something desired such a treat or reward.
