In Math, every topic uses something from the last topic, so you need to know it well before moving on. If you do not master the topic at hand first, you will get frustrated even more when trying to do the next lesson and then not be successful.\n\n2) The easiest way to learn Math is by example. You need to be able to practice every lesson doing problems that have answers in the book so you can check your work. Start with the easiest lessons and move on to harder lessons. This will help you gain confidence and that is 100% the name of the game. \n\n3) Never try to solve a math problem, especially word problems, without writing it down. It’s normal to want to “think your way to the answer”, but if you write down every single step of the question, you have more chance of the answer being correct. As well this gives you a way to easily check your work so that you understand how you got the correct answer.\n\n4) When studying homework, make sure you have a quiet area without distractions. Most people think that having background noise helps them focus but it actually distracts you from focusing on what it is asking. You likely end up reading the problem over 3 or 4 times before understanding it. You will likely spend less time studying because you are getting through it faster.\n\n5) The best way to know something really well is to teach it. If you have to explain something to someone, this helps you to understand it even more as well as knowing you helped out someone else. You will also understand what the stumbling blocks are and how you can get past them faster and easier.\n\n6) Always work on math problems with pencil. This way you can erase any mistakes and your paper will be cleaner to work with. You need to have clean work so that you can read your solution easier without getting frustrated with scratch outs that you would have if you used a pen. \n\n7) The best tools to use are mechanical pencils because it has cleaner lines, and a good separate eraser. These will help you have a cleaner page without smears.\n\n8) If you work math problems vertically, one step at a time on every line, you can follow your steps much easier. This way you and the teacher can follow your work and it will get you more credits for showing how you attacked that problem.\n\n9) Never do math problems very late at night or when you are really tired. When you are tired, you will end up staring the problems for a long time without coming up with answers and will make more mistakes. If you go to bed and get a good sleep, the next morning it’s quite likely you will find the answers to those problems within 5 minutes and it will seem so much easier than the night before.\n\n10) The best way to remember a problem is to draw a picture of it because we are visual beings, especially for Trigonometry, Calculus, and Physics and also for word problems in basic math or algebra. \nWhen you draw the steps of the problem, the problem makes more sense and you are able to proceed with the next step until you come up with the answer.
